Acupuncture for Menopause

Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment to rebalance hormones and therefore alleviate a range of symptoms during perimenopause and menopause. Acupuncture can work alongside drug treatment (HRT) and also provides relief for women who are unable to take hormone therapy due to their medical, family history or personal choice. Many women seek natural alternatives like acupuncture to manage their symptoms as acupuncture has very minimal negative side effects.

Perimenopause is a journey of approximately 10 years before Menopause, which is defined as one year without a menstrual bleed. Menopause is a natural transition in a woman's life, but the accompanying symptoms can be challenging to navigate. You may start to notice changes in your mood, how you sleep and your menstrual cycle.

The evidence for Acupuncture and Menopause

Menopause is one of the most widely researched areas of Acupuncture evidence showing some very encouraging long-term improvements in symptoms.

Several research studies reported a significant reduction in hot flushes in patients – reducing frequency and severity by half (50%) with positive effects lasting for up to six months. Studies also found that acupuncture improved menopause-related psychological symptoms (stress, anxiety) and urogenital symptoms (vaginal dryness, urinary urgency and UTIs) as well as an improvement in overall quality of life.

How does Acupuncture for Menopause work?

Every individual’s experience can be quite different based on their personal health history and factors such as stress. In Chinese Medicine, we look at the whole bodily system, physical and emotional, to understand the root cause and create an individualised treatment plan. Based on your diagnosis we’ll work together on a course of treatments which includes looking at a realistic diet and lifestyle programme.
